Stray dog service
Dear Adur District Council,
I am conducting research into animal welfare. If possible, please could you answer the following questions:
1. What is your policy on managing stray dogs in your local authority area?
2. How many stray dogs did your local authority take responsibility for each year between 2018-2020?
How many were then adopted?
How many went to animal rescue?
How many were euthanized?
What happened to any dogs who did not fall into the above categories
3. Of the dogs adopted or went to rescue please provide a breakdown year by year of the number of dogs to each organisation.
If my request is too wide ranging or you need further information please do not hesitate to ask
Yours faithfully,
Emma Sparkes

1. What is your policy on managing stray dogs in your local authority
area?
Our legal responsibilities can be found in [2]Section 149 of the
Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Stray dogs are reunited with their owners where possible. Where this is
not possible, we go to great lengths to secure our dogs a place in rescue.
This includes dogs that can be quite difficult to rehome and that need
specialist care. We sometimes take strays to local vets to ensure the
immediate wellbeing of the dog is taken care of. This also gives them the
chance of a place in a rescue centre.
