Dear Sir/Madam

I refer to your enquiry, I enclose the requested information in relation
to Stray Dogs.  I apologise for the delay in replying to your enquiry.

You asked:

- How many stray dogs entered pounds between 1st January 2010 and 31st
December 2010?
- How many of these were reclaimed by their owners?
- How many were adopted from the pound?
- How many went to an animal rescue?
- How many were euthanized?
- What happened to any remaining dogs that did not fall into above
categories?
- Do you keep any records as to which dogs were chipped?
- Do you keep any records as to the breed of the dogs?
- How many dogs entered the pound on more than one occasion?

In answer to  your questions I can confirm that 157 stray dogs entered the
pound between 1.1.10 and 31.12.10.  Of these, 76 were reclaimed by their
owners, 57 went to animal rescue, 16 were euthanized and 8 were re-homed
from the pound.  There were no other dogs which did not fall into the
above categories.

We do not keep records of which dogs were chipped on arrival to pound.

We do keep records of the breeds of dogs.  The top five breeds impounded
last year were Staffordshire Bull Terrier – 64, Jack Russell Terrier – 8,
 Pitt Bull Terrier -  6, Rottweiller – 6 and Collie – 5.

It is not possible to identify from the records whether any dogs entered
the pound on more than one occasion.

I hope that this information is useful to you.
