• How many stray dogs entered pounds between 1st January 2010 and 31st December 2010?
• How many of these were reclaimed by their owners?
• How many were adopted from the pound?
• How many went to an animal rescue?
• How many were euthanized?
• What happened to any remaining dogs that did not fall into above categories?
• Do you keep any records as to which dogs were chipped?
• Do you keep any records as to the breed of the dogs?
• How many dogs entered the pound on more than one occasion?

Thank you for your request for information, which was received by
Manchester City Council on 10 October 2010 and has been considered under
the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

For ease of reference, we have listed each of your questions below with
the corresponding response.  

• How many stray dogs entered pounds between 1st January 2010 and 31st
December 2010?
1327 dogs found within the boundaries of Manchester City Council were
taken into the kennels used by the Council between 1 January and 31
December 2010. (56 dogs were already in residence at the start of the year
and are therefore included in the figures below)

• How many of these were reclaimed by their owners?
467 dogs were claimed by their owners.

• How many were adopted from the pound?
557 dogs were adopted.

• How many went to an animal rescue?
59 dogs went to another kennel, animal rescue centre or similar.

• How many were euthanized?
208 dogs were euthanized.

• What happened to any remaining dogs that did not fall into above
categories?
82 were still in kennels on 31 December 2010, 4 died and 6 were exchanged.

• Do you keep any records as to which dogs were chipped?
Yes

• Do you keep any records as to the breed of the dogs?
Yes

• How many dogs entered the pound on more than one occasion?
We do not hold this information.

A dog that was exchanged is one that left the stray dogs home with no
money attached to it, most likely because the people brought a dog back
for not settling in and took another in “exchange”.

How do i find out if my dog was taken as a stray.AND then rehomed. She went missing 30/10/2010 and never seen again. Im still trying to find her.
