Dear Gill Morley,

Can I ask who holds the information that you do not, and why you do not hold all of it?

Yours sincerely,

Carla Bottle

Gill Morley, Gedling Borough Council

Dear Ms Bottle

Thank you for your email dated 30 October 2011.

With regard to the questions you raise, I can confirm that where dogs are not claimed by the owner after the seventh clear day of the dog being seized, the boarding kennels the council uses, arranges for the dog to be either re-homed or put to sleep. Historically after doing this the boarding kennels would return documentation to the council as to how the dog was disposed of, with relevant names and addresses, however over time this has lapsed and has not been addressed.

For the period your request covers, the Council was using a private boarding kennels; however we have now ceased trading with them. The owners of kennels have been contacted by the Council and they have confirmed that they no longer hold any documentation relating to Gedling Borough Council.

Procedures have now been put in place to make sure that the register is correctly completed by the contracted kennels currently being used, and returned the Council.
