Stop and Search of our black African Caribbean community only, resulting in conviction of a crime

Una Alexis made this Freedom of Information request to West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

We're waiting for Una Alexis to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner,

Hello

Please can you advise further, regarding the stop & searches (S&S) of our Black African Caribbean only citizens (NOT BAME) in West Yorkshire. This information request is for the period of 'January 2020 to August 2020' for both questions below. I know how many were stopped in your response which I have downloaded today, however no.1 below was missed out of my request. Please see below my requests for information.

1. How many of the S&S's of our black African Caribbean community only (NOT BAME) were actually convicted of an offence, justifying the S&S at that specific time?

2. What was the total amount of S&S for that exact time period, in West Yorkshire, of all ethnicities in totality? How many of them resulted in a conviction of an offence, justifying the S&S at that specific time?

3. How many S&S's of our black African Caribbean community only (NOT BAME). Also how many were actually convicted of an offence, justifying the S&S at that specific time - in Huddersfield only?

4. What was the total amount of S&S for that exact time period, of all ethnicities in totality? Also how many of them resulted in a conviction of an offence, justifying the S&S at that specific time - in Huddersfield only?

Our organisation are now even closer to engaging directly with our black African Caribbean community. Our need for this information is vital in moving forward for a better society, in which we all live in.

In anticipation of recieving the information for the above 4 questions.

Yours faithfully,

Una Alexis

Dear PCC Contact West Yorks,

Please see below the response to my original first request. It is missing the number of convictions on the back of the stop and searches that were carried out, which I asked only a week or so into my first initial request....to which I was told I would also recieve. The below information will tell you the information of who supplied this information and ref for my request, I am very surprised you have no record this?? I have only the number of black African Caribbean people stopped in the attachment I recieved. I would very much appreciate the additional information I have requested this week, thank you.

Dear U. Alexis,

Thank you for your request for information, received by West Yorkshire Police on 14/07/20.

You requested the following information:

I am doing research on Stop and Searches (SaS) within our community. Not the BAME community as a
whole, just black ethnicity alone. I would like to know the statistics of SaS for our black African Caribbean
community for the period 01.01.2020 to 26.08.2020.

Please see the attached document<<< this document I do have stating the number of S&S but nothing else.

Yours sincerely,

Una Alexis

Dear DPO OCPP,

I requested the prior information via this site 'What Do They Know' so is this now not available to request additional information , that I have requested within the last week?? I am very confused as I assumed this was where I can request the information.

Yours sincerely,

Una Alexis

Dear Ms Alexis,

When you submitted your request via 'what do they know' you selected 'West Yorkshire Police' as the authority.

This is the link to the original request https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/body/west...

The follow up request has come through to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, we believe that you may have selected the incorrect authority in your response, as we did not deal with your initial request and we do not tend to hold such information.

Please explore the above link and let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Kind regards,

Felicity Akesson

Dear DPO OCPP,

Okay, thank you and I was not aware I was not using the same option as before when I sent my further requests. I have now contacted West Yorkshire Police via their direct website requesting the information.

Yours sincerely,

Una Alexis
