Dear Sir or Madam,

Please could you provide me with as much of the following data as you have available:

1. The total number of searches carried out by the force under "stop and account" powers. Please supply this data by month, for as many months as are available.
2. A breakdown of the total number of "stop and account" searches by the subject's self-defined ethnicity. Please supply this data by month as above.

I understand that not all forces record "stop and account" searches, but I would be grateful for any data you do have.

Thank you for your attention, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like me to clarify this request.

Yours faithfully,

Anna Powell-Smith

Dear Ms Powell-Smith,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REF 19/05/726.

Thank you for your request received by Kent Police on 10^th May 2019. I
note you seek access, in summary, to information relating to:

Stop and Account

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) provides that a public
authority respond to an FOI request within 20 working days. Please be
aware that as well as experiencing very high request volumes, Kent Police
is currently in the process of transitioning to a new crime recording
database. This means that whilst we will endeavour to complete your
request as soon as possible it is likely that a response may well be
delayed, particularly where crime data is sought.

Your interest in Kent Police is appreciated and pending a specific
response to your request, I enclose a sheet, which summarises your rights.
Should you have any further inquiries concerning this matter, please write
or contact us via the following telephone numbers 01622 652610 quoting the
reference number above.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Freedom of Information Kent,

I'd just like to clarify the wording in my request: I'm interested in the number of _stops_ made under "stop and account" powers, not the number of _searches_.

As you may have spotted, "stop and account" powers by definition do not involve searches!

If you do not record "stop and account", or do not use "stop and account" by policy, I'd also be interested in knowing that.

Apologies for any confusion, and thanks for considering my request.

Yours sincerely,

Anna Smith
