Dear Mr Stone,

Re: Information Request – Stonehenge bat survey

Thank you for your email on 30 June in which you requested the following
information:

Could you please supply me with a copy of the Bat Survey completed before
the restoration work carried out at Stonehenge around September 2021.
Please also supply the details of any mitigation licence (A13) that was
granted. If a bat survey was not commissioned, please supply instead the
documented decision as to why it was not.

Your request has been considered under the Environmental Information
Regulations (2004). I have looked into this for you in detail, and spoken
with the Senior Properties Curator at Stonehenge. I can confirm that the
information you have requested is not held. This is because there has
never been any evidence of bats within the stone circle, neither physical
or anecdotal. During planning applications for the new visitor centre in
2009, ecology surveys were carried out, and no evidence of bats was found.
Therefore it was not deemed a necessary use of funds to commission a bat
survey in 2021.

I hope that this is helpful to you, details of our review procedure are
attached.

Yours sincerely,

Jenny Pearson
