STEP Offer Statistics and Others
Dear Imperial College London,
I would like to know how many international and UK students respectively applying for Mathematics without taking MAT were given STEP offers in each of the years since MAT was adopted. I also want a table for the number of students from each non-UK nationality group(including China, France, Malaysia, Italy, Germany, Singapore, Spain, Greece, India, Hong Kong etc.) having applied for
BSc Mathematics,
BSc Mathematics, Optimisation and Statistics,
BSc Mathematics (Pure Mathematics),
and BSc Mathematics with Applied Mathematics/Mathematical Physics
got an offer in the past 5 years respectively. It would be great if male to female ratio of the students who accepted the offer can also be provided for each of the above courses.
In case (a) certain part(s) of this piece of information is/are exempt from disclosure under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act, please ignore the exempted part and provide the rest.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Kenneth Ng

Dear Mr Ng
Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request. Please find below the College's response to your questions.
"how many international and UK students respectively applying for Mathematics without taking MAT were given STEP offers in each of the years since MAT was adopted."
Please see Table 1 on the attached spreadsheet, showing the number of offers made for Undergraduate degree programmes in the Mathematics Department where STEP was required in the offer conditions, since 2013, split by UK and International applicants.
Please see the notes at the top of the spreadsheet, which give important information about the data provided. In particular, because MAT data is only retained for the most recent completed UCAS cycle, Table 1 includes data on all applicants regardless of whether or not they took the MAT.
Table 2 on the attached spreadsheet shows the number of offers made for undergraduate degree programmes in the department of Mathematics at Imperial College London in the 2017 UCAS cycle where STEP was required as part of the offer conditions and where the MAT was not taken.
"a table for the number of students from each non-UK nationality group(including China, France, Malaysia, Italy, Germany, Singapore, Spain, Greece, India, Hong Kong etc.) having applied for BSc Mathematics, BSc Mathematics, Optimisation and Statistics, BSc Mathematics (Pure Mathematics), and BSc Mathematics with Applied Mathematics/Mathematical Physics got an offer in the past 5 years respectively."
Please see Table 3 on the attached spreadsheet.
"male to female ratio of the students who accepted the offer can also be provided for each of the above courses"
Please see Table 4 on the attached spreadsheet which shows the figures.
Please note that in all the Tables, figures of five or fewer have been replaced with an asterisk. This is because, due to the small numbers involved, individuals may otherwise be identifiable from the data provided. This information is therefore exempt from disclosure under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act, which states that "any information to which a request for information relates is also exempt information if - (a) it constitutes personal data."
