Step free access South Wimbledon
Dear Transport for London,
Could you tell me if any feasibility studies have been conducted for installing a lift (or other step free access) at South Wimbledon tube station. If so, what were the conclusions?
Yours faithfully,
Barry Smith.

Dear Barry Smith,
TfL Ref: FOI-2942-2425
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 December 2024 asking for information about feasibility studies for South Wimbledon Underground station.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
A pre-feasibility study was undertaken in Autumn 2023 to consider which of the 12 stations on the Northern line between Borough and South Wimbledon are best suited for step-free investment, through assessment and scoring of constraints which might impact the level of complexity and cost associated with development.
Whilst South Wimbledon was rated highly in terms of deliverability, it was relatively low benefit compared to the other 11 stations assessed – the latter being derived from the extent to which making a station step-free has on reducing the additional journey time incurred by each customer, along with the monetised benefits which take into account station demand.
As a result of this study, TfL has made the decision to undertake full feasibility studies at Colliers Wood and Tooting Broadway, as announced publicly on 5 August 2024, the press release is available on our website here: https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/media/press-.... Both stations have significantly higher levels of benefit compared to South Wimbledon.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely,
