January 2020

Dear Ms Woodward,

FOI Request 2020-0042780 – Request exceed the cost threshold and is not
being processed further

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 19
December 2019. You requested ‘monthly updates or correspondence regarding
the schools improvements post the Ofsted inspection in 2018. Whether that
be minutes from meetings regarding the improvement plans and it’s progress
- or correspondence concerning this between December 2018 and November
2019.’

I have dealt with your requests under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
The Department holds the information you have requested. However, the
Department estimates that the cost of complying with your request would
exceed the cost threshold applicable to central Government. This is £600
and represents the estimated cost of one person spending 3½ working days
locating, retrieving and extracting the information.

Under Section 12 of the Act, the Department is therefore not obliged to
comply with your request and will not be processing it further.

If you were to make a new request for a narrower category of information
or limit the scope of your request, the Department may be able to comply
with your request within the cost limit, although I cannot guarantee that
this will be the case.

It may help if I outline some possible ways of narrowing your request:

* Requesting one specific subject of correspondence between a narrower
number of correspondents (e.g. DfE officials and the school), or one
particular search term, word, or phrase contained therein (e.g.
‘formal updates from CLF on the Emergency Fund work’), relating to a
specific time period;

* Requesting specific documents relating to one school, issue, or
organisation but over a narrower timeframe (e.g. within a three-months
period, or a specific point in time);

* Including only certain forms of information in your request (e.g.
either emails, briefings, minutes, or official correspondence only).

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. Please
remember to quote the reference numbers above in any future
communications.

If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled, you should
make a complaint to the Department by writing to me within two calendar
months of the date of this letter. An independent review panel, whose
members will not have been involved in the original consideration of your
request, will consider your complaint.

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint to the
Department, you may then contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Yours sincerely,

Joanne Hampton

Dear Ms Woodward,

FOI request 2020-0004276 –  Progress Updates for Steiner Academy Bristol

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 10
February 2020. You requested “’I would like to narrow the scope and see
the monthly updates / progress reports regarding the schools improvements
post the Ofsted inspection in 2018.”. This follows a previous request
which was deemed to be over the cost threshold to reply.  I have dealt
with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Following a search of the Department’s paper and electronic records, I
have established that the Department does not hold this information. The
responsibility for ensuring school improvement at Steiner Academy Bristol
following the Ofsted inspection in November 2018 was with the governing
body, and the Academy Management Committee that was subsequently put in
place to stabilise governance at the school. The AMC held regular
meetings, where there were updates provided. The Department, sat as an
observer at these meetings, but did not formally receive written updates
from the school.

Yours sincerely
