MINOR CAPITAL PROJECTS
Request for Approval of Funds for Minor Capital Projects
PURPOSE
• To provide an update on minor capital Projects completed in 2020/2021
• To request approval to proceed with minor capital projects funded from DFC / SCA 2021/2022
allocated budget
KEY POINTS
2020/2021
• As a result of last years authorised schedule of minor capital projects estates works for maintenance
and conditional projects with a value of £1,425K wil be completed by 31/08/2021 with an additional
£411k of approved works being carried forward into next year due to logistical and operational
limitations to the work completing onsite prior to 31st August. (The value of works completed in
20/21 is unusually high due to the increased amount carried forward as a result of works delayed
due to covid). Details per school are shown in the tables 1 and 2below.

2021/2022
• £1,126K of essential maintenance and conditions projects which make up the minor capital works
programme, have been identified for completion in 2021/2022. These works have been identified
as a result of the DEP survey completed in 2018/2019 and in consultation with the school Estates
leads and Head Teachers. A summary by school and funding stream is shown below in Table 3, a
more detailed schedule by school is shown in Appendix 1.
• These projects can all be funded from £1,179K SCA/DFC funds that have been made available to the
Trust via DFC and SCA funding streams.
• £53k (5%) of the SCA /DFC funding wil be retained by Mercian Central Team for overhead costs.

Appendix A list the individual projects out by school.
Please note appendix A is the ful list of projects to be funded from revenue, and SCA with 2 columns of
figures Column 1 shows the projects requiring approval for 2021/2022 commencement and column 2
showing the full schedule which includes projects being carries forward from previous years’ approval.
ANTICIPATED IMPACT & SUCCESS CRITERIA
• Impact – Managing school estates effectively help save money and ensure a healthy, safe and
sustainable school environment.
• Success Criteria – Statutory and auditory compliance with legislation reducing the risk of accidents
and incidents across the Trust, and reduced energy consumption resulting from M and E heating
projects.

RISKS
• Risk of serious incident or accident
• Risk of demotivation of staff and students due to working / studying environment
• Assets depreciate at a greater rate if not maintained.
• Preventative maintenance reduces potential more expensive future maintenance works.
