Statistics relating to BME applicants and Students at the School of Medicine MBChB programme
Dear University of Leeds,
In my role of community youth worker within the Bradford district working with young people from BME disadvantaged communities and wanting to feed into the new Office for Students.
I regularly encourage those at sixth form to aim higher and apply for courses at local Russell Group Universities.
I am particularly concerned and interested in the low number of BME low participation neighbourhood students at the University of Leeds Medical School.
I would like an answer to the following information requested under the Freedom of Information Act
Could you provide me with data relating to last five years in respect to:
1. The number of standard age BME Male applicants to MBChB programme from low participation backgrounds from West Yorkshire sub region;
2. What the retention rate is for those BME Male students who are successful in gaining a place on the MBChB programme from low participation backgrounds from West Yorkshire sub region;
3. What the completion/graduation rate is for those BME Male students who are successful in gaining a place on the MBChB programme from low participation backgrounds from West Yorkshire sub region.
Thank you for your assistance.
Yours faithfully,
Sohail Ali
