Statistics of people that obtained marks on the Hazard Perception Test in 2015

The request was successful.

Dear Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency,

I would like this data to be provided in a table. Where x is any discrete number between 0 and 75. As a separate figure, please include the figures of those that were disqualified from the theory test.

The number of people that obtained "x" marks on the hazard perception test (including retakes) from January 1 2015 to December 31 2015.

The discrete probability distribution table of obtaining any given mark (which is calculated by number of people obtaining one "x" mark and the total number of people that took their car theory hazard perception test from January 1 2015 to December 31 2015.)

The total number that took their car theory hazard perception test from January 1 2015 to December 31 2015 (including retakes).

Please include the mode (most common mark), the mean average mark, median (mid point value) mark.

Yours faithfully,
Saifur Rahman

Dear Mr Rahman

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FoIA) REQUEST

I write further to my email of 19 July 2016 about Statistics of people
that obtained marks on the Hazard Perception Test in 2015.

Before we are able to respond, I would like some clarification of the
information you have requested.  Please clarify questions 1 and 2 below

The hazard perception test is taken by candidates for the following
categories, where the score ranges from 0 to 75:

·         Car

·         Car abridged

·         Motorcycle

·         PDI

·         RLGV

·         RPMT

·         Examiner

Which of the above vehicles are you referring to?

You have asked for the number of people disqualified from the theory test.
We do not ‘disqualify’ people from the theory test. We may sometimes have
to revoke their test pass, please clarify if this is the information you
require?

If we do not receive clarification of your request within one month from
the date of this letter, then we will consider your request closed. If you
have any queries about this letter, please do not hesitate to contact us
on the above details.  Please remember to quote the reference number above
in any future communications

Yours sincerely

Dear [email address],

For clarification,

I would like the discrete probability distribution for only *Car* Hazard Perception tests from January 1 2015 to December 31 2015.

In terms of "disqualification": do you hold the data of candidates whose results were revoked? do you hold the data of candidates for their reason for revoking their result? e.g. cheating, malpractice, etc. from January 1 2015 to December 31 2015

If so, please publish these results.

I hope I have clarified this FOI request.

Yours sincerely,
Saifur Rahman

Dear DVLA,

Thank you for this detailed report. I am very satisfied with this response and would like to express my formal commendation to those that worked on this FOI request.

Yours sincerely,
Saifur Rahman

The WhatDoTheyKnow.com team have today (2nd May 2021) deleted a response from the DVLA dated 3rd August 2016 as we were made aware on 6th November 2020 that the response contained personal information. The response document 'Annex A' contained details of reasons why test candidates had had their results revoked and identified them using their driving licence number. This could be seen as sensitive personal information and is information which we could not reasonably justify holding and publishing.

Between 6th November 2020 and today the information has been hidden from public view whilst we corresponded with the DVLA and Information Commissioner's Office in respect of this data breach by the DVLA.

We have now received a replacement response and have deleted the original response containing the data breach from our systems.
