Freedom of Information Officer, St John’s College, Cambridge

Dear Mr Solomon,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request regarding admissions to
the H100 course. The College holds some of the information that you have
requested.  However, it is not able to supply it to you because the
information represents the personal data of each applicant, as well as of
other persons (namely those responsible for predicting the applicant's
A-level results and those engaged in interviewing).  That personal data
was provided for the purpose of dealing with the application and for that
purpose only and the College is of the view that none of the conditions
for processing would enable it to publish the data to the world at large
(which would be the effect of providing you with the information).  That
would contravene the First Data Protection Principle.  The relevant
exemption under the Freedom of Information is to be found in section 40.

If you are dissatisfied with my response you may seek an internal review
in writing setting out the grounds for review. It will be dealt with by a
College Officer. Should you not be satisfied with the outcome of the
review, you will have a right of appeal to the Information Commissioner by
writing to him at Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely

Dear St John’s College, Cambridge,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of St John’s College, Cambridge's handling of my FOI request 'Statistics of Engineering Applicants'.

I am requesting an internal review on the grounds that this information have been supplied by the other cambridge colleges and I request that this information is supplied to me as it does not reveal the identity of candidates in anyway.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s...

Yours faithfully,

david solomon
