Statistics of enforcement on Late Submissions Policy for Tripos Exams 2022

The request was successful.

Dear University of Cambridge,

The University Guide to Examinations Policy 21/22 states that exam scripts submitted after the technological grace period for 5-hour online Tripos Exams will not be marked and will receive a mark of zero.

I would like to enquire how many of these cases there were in all 5-hour Tripos exams in Easter 2022. It would be great if you may provide me with the following data and information across all subjects with 5-hour online exams to be submitted on Moodle:

(1) Given that some students may have access to extra time and other access arrangements, are each and every script manually checked to see if they have been submitted within their allotted time?

(2) The number of students who had turned in their scripts late beyond the grace period.

(3) The number of students who subsequently received a zero for turning in their scripts beyond the grace period.

(4) The number of students who were able to cite technical difficulties and other reasons to justify a different outcome.

Yours faithfully,

Thomas Collins

Dear FOI Team,

Thank you for your response to my Freedom of Information request regarding the University Guide to Examinations Policy 21/22. I appreciate the information you have provided, but I would like to seek further clarification on the matter.

I understand that you have stated that there were no cases of students turning in their scripts after the grace period in Easter 2022. However, I find this information quite hard to believe. Considering the large number of students taking exams in all Tripos subjects, it seems improbable that not a single student submitted their exam script (or parts of their exam scripts) after the 15-minute grace period.

Therefore, I kindly request you to confirm that no student, across all Tripos subjects with 5-hour online exams to be uploaded on Moodle in Easter 2022, submitted their scripts after more than 15 minutes and 1 second of the grace period. If there were any such instances, please provide me with the updated information as requested in my previous message.

I would also appreciate it if you could clarify how this information was collected, and the source of this data.

I understand that the University of Cambridge has a duty to provide accurate and complete information under the Freedom of Information Act. Therefore, I hope you can understand my request for further clarification on this matter. Your help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Thomas Collins
