Statistics for the Annually replacement of Road Studs

The request was successful.

Dear Kirklees Borough Council,

In brief my Company, Cyclops Road Studs Ltd has developed a device that illuminates road markings with UK, USA, CHINA & EUROPE patents granted and further patents pending globally.

I would very much appreciate information for the number of Road Studs that are replaced Annually in the UK within your Region? I understand that this is information that will be held on your behalf by various contractors and I have tried unsuccessfully to date to get access to the statistics I require by contacting the various manufacturers and road marking companies.

The only guide I have managed to source to Date is an online article which states that there are approx. 5oo Million Road Studs in the UK?

I have been advised to request an FOI in order to get these figures as I have been unable to get the information, I require from any of the contacts I have approached previously, and this seems to be the only option left to me

IT IS IMPERATIVE TO MY COMPANY THAT I HAVE THE CORRECT INFROMATION IN ORDER FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO FINALISE DISCUSSIONS WITH VARIOUS INVESTORS TO GET A ROUTE TO MARKET WHICH IS DEPENDENT ON THE ANNUAL REPLACEMENT FIGURES.

Yours faithfully,

Thomas Barker

Dear Mr Barker

FoI 19256 - Statistics for the Annually replacement of Road Studs

I am writing in response to your request dated 27 February 2019.  This has
been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

You asked for the following information:

I would very much appreciate information for the number of Road Studs that
are replaced Annually in the UK within your Region? I understand that this
is information that will be held on your behalf by various contractors and
I have tried unsuccessfully to date to get access to the statistics I
require by contacting the various manufacturers and road marking
companies.

The only guide I have managed to source to Date is an online article which
states that there are approx. 5oo Million Road Studs in the UK?

I have been advised to request an FOI in order to get these figures as I
have been unable to get the information, I require from any of the
contacts I have approached previously, and this seems to be the only
option left to me

The Council’s response to your specific questions is set out below:

The Council doesn’t have a programme or budget each year for the
replacement of worn / damaged cats eye studs on roads, just an
all-inclusive lining maintenance budget that may or may not include the
renewal of studs, depending which sites are undertaken and if stud renewal
is necessary. As such we do not keep a record of the number of cats eyes
studs replaced as part of this work.

As part of our Surface Dressing Programme, where an engineering judgement
dictates the removal and renewal of the studs, if their effectiveness
could be reduced by the application of the new road surface, we are able
to track the number of replacement studs. Last year we replaced 1664. This
figure depends on the site choices each year, whether they are roads with
studs or not. In previous years we may have renewed many more than this
figure or indeed none at all.

If you are not content with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review.  Requests for internal reviews should
be submitted within 2 months of the date of receipt of the response to
your original request and should be addressed to the Monitoring Officer,
1^st Floor, Civic Centre 3, Market Street, Huddersfield HD1 2EY.
Alternatively, you can send an email to:
[1][email address].

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future
communications.

If you are not content with the outcome of any review you have the right
under section 50 of the 2000 Act to apply to the Information Commissioner
for a decision as to whether your request for information has been dealt
with in accordance with the requirements of the Act.  The Information
Commissioner’s website is at [2]www.ico.org.uk and gives more information
about the role and duties of the Commissioner.  The Information
Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office,
Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely

Dear Kirklees Borough Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Kirklees Borough Council's handling of my FOI request 'Statistics for the Annually replacement of Road Studs'.

[ GIVE DETAILS ABOUT YOUR COMPLAINT HERE ] THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT
The information you have provided will certainly enable me to be able to get a calculation of the number of road studs that are replaced annually in the UK.
I do have one further query and that is can you let me know the total miles of roads you look after in your area/county?

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s...

Yours faithfully,

Thomas Barker
