Under the Freedom of Information Act, I request the following information about all instances of sexual misconduct reported by students at Durham University from 2015/2016 until the end of the 2019/20 academic year inclusive.

I request information on the following:

- The number of reported instances of sexual assault (including rape)
- Statistics of whether the perpetrator was a student or member of staff
- How many of these resulted in expulsion for the perpetrator

Thank you for your request for information from Durham University. 
Colleagues have provided the information below in response to your
questions.

 

Under the Freedom of Information Act, I request the following information
about all instances of sexual misconduct reported by students at Durham
University from 2015/2016 until the end of the 2019/20 academic year
inclusive.

 

I request information on the following:

 

The number of reported instances of sexual assault (including rape)

Statistics of whether the perpetrator was a student or member of staff

How many of these resulted in expulsion for the perpetrator

 

Information for 2015 - 2019 is published online at

For this reason, the information you have requested is exempt under
section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), as it is
reasonably accessible otherwise than under the FOIA.

 

The University confirms that it holds the information for 2019/20 that you
have requested.  However, the University declines your request under
Section 22 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).  Section 22
exempts information from release where the public authority or another
person intends to publish the information at some future date, whether
determined or not, and where it is reasonable to withhold the information
prior to publication.

 

The University intends to publish this information as part of the Sexual
Misconduct & Violence Annual Trend Monitoring Report which will be
published on the University website when complete.

information request, you can ask us to internally review our handling of
your request, including the application of any exemptions applied.  To do
