Statistics for Engineering applicants 2016/2017 and 2017/2018

Chen T. M. made this Freedom of Information request to Magdalene College, Cambridge

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Magdalene College, Cambridge,

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, would you be so kind as
to provide the following information for undergraduate
applicants offering A-Levels as their highest qualification for the
2016/17 and 2017/18 admissions cycle for Engineering to Magdalene College:

1. The average Science UMS (SUMS) percentage of the applicant
2.The applicant's number of A*s in GCSE
3. Whether or not the applicant was called for an interview (y/n)
4. The score of the applicant in the ENGAA (1.0-9.0)
5. The first interview score
6. The second interview score
7. Whether an offer was made from Magdalene(y/n)
8. Whether an offer was made from another college(y/n)
applicant from another college (y/n)

May I suggest the data to be grouped in a single table, with one
row per applicant and columns containing data from Q1-8. Please
order the applicants from low to high SUMS average.
May I kindly request the data to be in both electronic (pdf) and
Microsoft Excel (xlsx) format.
If any part of this request requires further clarification, please
do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,
T. M. Chen

Kathryn Gee,

Dear T.M. Chen,

I refer to your recent request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
regarding statistics for engineering applicants.

We are unable to respond to your request as it stands as we do not hold
much of the information you ask for, and would be unable to present it in
the format you suggest.

In line with our data protection policy, once an admissions round is
complete we only hold information about applicants that have been
successful in obtaining a place at Magdalene. We would therefore only be
able to give partial answers to questions 1, 2, 4 , 5 and 6; questions 3,
7 and 8 would become irrelevant.

In addition, under section 40(2) of The Act (Data Protection) we would be
unable to provide the information in table form with one line for each
candidate, as you suggest, as this would risk revealing the personal data
of individuals. Instead, we would be able to provide unlinked data in
response to each of your individual questions, with the exceptions
explained above.

If you would still like to receive the limited data that we have, please
submit a revised request in line with the advice above.

Kind regards,

Kathryn

Dear Kathryn Gee,
