Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
Please answer the following questions:

1. What is the total number of people under the age of sixteen that were in receipt of DLAs in the last five financial years (existing claims+ new awards, in each of the respective year)
Can you also express the number for each year as a percentage of the group (child) population?

2. How many DLA- child awards were awarded in each of the last five financial years (new claims awarded in each of the last financial years)? Can you break them down by the type of illness/disability for each year?

3. Out of the DLA child awards that were awarded in each of the last five financial year:

A- How many claims were awarded only based on the information provided by the claimants without having, obtaining or requesting any form of evidence to support the claim?

B- How many claims were awarded based on the information provided by the claimants and after you wrote to a professional for example a doctor, consultant and a teacher?

C-How many claims were awarded based on the information provided by the claimants and evidence provided by them without writing to any healthcare professional or any other professional?

D-How many claims were awarded because the child has a statement of special educational needs?

E-How many claims were awarded because the child has a statement of special educational needs?

F-How many claims were awarded because the child has ADHD diagnosis?

G-Do you have a practice where you would award the claimant a DLA if the information provided by them indicate that they meet the criteria for a DLA award even if they did not provide any form of evidence/statement from a third independent party (if they claimant simply ticked the boxes and answered the questions in the form)?

Yours faithfully,

Duncan Smith
