Station locations on the Ongar system

Transport for London did not have the information requested.

Dear Transport for London,

Please provide a list of all Underground stations giving their distances from Ongar on the system introduced in 1972. To the extent practical, please include closed stations, stations on Network Rail lines served or previously served by Underground trains, and any other locations for which the data is available (e.g. significant junctions).

Locations should be specified to a precision of 10 metres or better.

Yours faithfully,

Clive D.W. Feather

Dear Mr Feather,

TfL Ref: FOI-1820-1920

Thank you for your email of 14th September 2019 asking for information
about the distance of London Underground stations from Ongar.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

“Please provide a list of all Underground stations giving their distances
from Ongar on the system introduced in 1972. To the extent practical,
please include closed stations, stations on Network Rail lines served or
previously served by Underground trains, and any other locations for which
the data is available (e.g. significant junctions). Locations should be
specified to a precision of 10 metres or better.”

TfL does not hold the requested information. TfL no longer uses the Ongar
system of measurement, and the requested information is not currently held
in a collated format. While it would be theoretically possible to produce
measurements from the records we hold (using the various maps and diagrams
of the network at our disposal) the FOI Act does not oblige public
authorities to create new information in response to requests. That said,
I can provide you with the attached “Inter station database” spreadsheet
which is the closest approximation to the information you have requested,
and which enables one to determine the distance between any two stations
on the same line (note that you may need to expand the width of some
columns to see the data in full; and that application of the “Data” /
“Filter” function allows one to search by individual station).

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,

David Wells
