Standards of Temporary Accommodation in Newham

Children's Commissioner for England did not have the information requested.

Dear Children’s Commissioner for England,

We have been provided with a temporary accommodation by Children's
and Young people services in Newham. We are living in the house
since nearly 2 months.

However the house provided contains mice, cockroaches, spiders and
other insects. We have three children of 5 years, 3 years and 2
months respectively.

The children are scared of the mice/insects/snails and despite
complaining to the social worker, no action has been taken.
Instead, cockroaches sometimes have been found on the new born
baby.

Please note that the accommodation is overcrowded with 5 people in
our family.

My question is:

1. what is the statutory guidance about the existing minimum
standards for your temporary accommodation provided to children?

2. What is the policy related to children's services when such
complaints have been made?

3. what is your duty towards the Section 55 Act?

4. What is the policy regarding children in your borough?

5. What is the duty of the social worker and children services related to the above?

Yours faithfully,

Mrs ismail

Dear Children’s Commissioner for England,

Dear Newham Borough Council,

After careful ocnsideration about the seriousness of the issue regarding mice and cockroaches and the involvement of my children including my 2 months' baby, I am therefore informing you about the temporary accommodation address:

47b Colchester Avenue
Manor Park
E12 5lf

I believe that you will now provide me with the policies I requested including the statutory duty towards your temporary accommodatioin. Please note that the kitchen is attached to the living room and having left my baby alone in that place, I noticed quite a big creature which cannot be a mice but can be a rat.

The social worker above refused to cooperate with family support officers present at the schools of our children.

More information has been provided to you as you requested the address.

I expect the policies to be sent as a matter of urgency including your duties and statutory guidelines with regards to your temporary accommodation.

Yours faithfully,

MRS ismail
