Freedom of Information Requests, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service

Dear Mr Maidstone,

I refer to your Freedom of Information Act request which was received by
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service on 15 April 2020.

Request:

Please can you provide your policies and instructions for standard tests
of your frontline pumping appliances and the equipment they carry.

Response:

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service does hold this information but considers
that it is exempt under Section 24(1) National Security of the Freedom of
Information Act and is, therefore, being withheld.

The Service considers disclosure of this information could be used to
target appliances and equipment.  The public interest test in maintaining
the exemption has been given due consideration and the Service believes
that the public interest in safeguarding national security far outweighs
the disclosure of the information.

We can confirm that all our standard tests either meet or exceed the
manufacturer’s recommendations and any relevant statutory legislation.
All instructions for use of equipment are also based on manufacturers
recommendations.  Where we expect to use equipment in unusual
circumstances not referenced by them in their instructions for use, then
the manufacturers are consulted for advice and a Risk Assessment is
carried out by ourselves.

I hope this satisfies your request, however if you are unhappy with the
way in which your request has been handled, you can ask for a review by
writing to:

Mrs L Ridley

Assistant Director – Planning & Improvement

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Headquarters

A request for an internal review should be submitted within two months of
the date of receipt of the response to your original enquiry.

If you remain dissatisfied with the handling of your request or complaint,
you have the right of appeal to the Information Commissioner at:

The Information Commissioner's Office

Wycliffe House

Water Lane

Wilmslow

Cheshire

SK9 5AF

Telephone: 0303 123 1113

website: [1]https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/
