Dear Sir,
Further to your recent request made under the terms of the Freedom of
Information Act as detailed below, the response from North Wales Fire and
Rescue Service (NWFRS) is as follows:
The decision to call in Retained Duty System (RDS) crews for standby
duties on a Wholetime station is the responsibility of NWFRS Control staff
and is based upon the circumstances at the time, which can be affected by
such variables as other in-progress incidents, the specific location
within the North Wales region of the Wholetime station that requires a
standby presence and its associated risks, and the constantly-changing
availability of RDS personnel. Such decisions are based on dynamic and
ever-changing situations and, therefore, it is not possible to provide you
with a simplistic list of requirements for when an RDS crew would be
called-in to act as standby.
