Dear Accrington Academy

Please send me the overall staff turnover rate (teaching and non-teaching), including staff with either full-time or part-time contracts, at Accrington Academy. It would be helpful if you used the following formula:

(total number of leavers during the last twelve months x 100)
divided by
(average total staff over the period [start headcount and end headcount divided by two])

Please include all staff appointed directly or indirectly by United Learning Trust with cost code Accrington Academy comprising those on permanent or temporary contracts excluding agency cover.

Include staff who have left voluntarily and also those who have left involuntarily due, for example, to the culmination of their contract, dismissal or redundancy and as a result of retirement. Do not include staff leaving one post to immediately take on another position at the academy.

Also, please send me the following measure of staff retention from the date this request is received. For this stability index, use the following calculation:

(number of staff with service of one year or more in current post x 100)
divided by
(total number of staff in post one year ago)

I would be grateful if you could also supply numbers of teaching and non-teaching staff:
1/ total headcounts at the start and end of the period,
2/ average headcount (start headcount and end headcount divided by two) and
3/ number of leavers over the period.

Thank you for your FOI request to Accrington Academy. The school is a United Learning Academy and we deal with FOI requests on their behalf. As you will be aware FOI requests have to be answered within 20 working days. For a school a working day is defined as a day when the pupils are in school, therefore our deadline for response is 1st October.

We will endeavour to answer your request prior to this date, however many of our staff work term time only so it may be September before we are able to supply the requested data.

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request in relation to staff
turnover at Accrington Academy.  Accrington Academy is a United Learning
school and we answer FOI requests on their behalf.

1. The overall staff turnover rate (teaching and non-teaching), including
staff with either full-time or part-time contracts, at  Accrington Academy
in the period 1st September 2014 to 31 August 2015 was 20.0 % (Teaching =
26.1% and Support Staff = 14.4%).  The formula used to calculate this is
(Number of Leavers/Average number of staff over the term) x 100

2. The measure of staff retention from the date the request was received
was 85.9%

3. The headcount at the start of the period was 178 (Teaching 81, Support
97).  The headcount at the end of the period was 185 (Teaching 85, Support
100).  The average headcount for the period was 181.5 and the number of
leavers was 42.

Following responses received from schools and academies so far, you may be interested to hear that annual staff turnover varies between 0% and 41%, and staff retention ranges between 46% and 100%.
