Staff internet monitoring

Dear Vale of White Horse District Council,

1) Does the organisation allow employees access to the internet
using the organisation's equipment (i.e. computers)?

2) If the answer to the above question is yes, is access unlimited
or does the organisation restrict or filter access to particular
websites or types of website?

3) If access to websites is restricted or filtered, please list the
types of website that are restricted or filtered.

4) Does the organisation monitor personal usage of the internet by
employee and, if so, in what form is that monitoring performed?

5) Does monitoring relate to the time spent 'browsing' or the
volume of data downloaded viewing websites on the internet?

7) For the time period May 1, 2012 – May 1, 2013, please
provide a breakdown of the top 10 websites visited by employees by
megabyte downloaded and number of 'hits'.

8) During the last 24 months, how many employees in the
organisation:

i) Received a formal written warning on their personal internet
usage.

ii) Been suspended or had their employment terminated as a result
of their personal internet usage.

9) Does the organisation have a policy on internet usage and if so,
please provide a copy.

1) Does the organisation allow employees access to the internet
     using the organisation's equipment (i.e. computers)?
    Yes
    
     2) If the answer to the above question is yes, is access unlimited
     or does the organisation restrict or filter access to particular
     websites or types of website?
    All users access the internet via a web proxy appliance which
applies security filters via a whitelist.
     
     3) If access to websites is restricted or filtered, please list the
     types of website that are restricted or filtered. 
    The software is configured to allow access via categories as defined
by the manufacturers - categories that are blocked include:
drugs, gambling, security risk, sexually explicit, violence/offence,
weapons
     
     4) Does the organisation monitor personal usage of the internet by
     employee and, if so, in what form is that monitoring performed?
    Yes. We can report on usage but we do not actively monitor unless
requested by line managers
     
     5) Does monitoring relate to the time spent 'browsing' or the
     volume of data downloaded viewing websites on the internet?
    Monitoring can be done on time spent or amount browsed.
     
     7) For the time period May 1, 2012 – May 1, 2013, please
     provide a breakdown of the top 10 websites visited by employees by
     megabyte downloaded and number of 'hits'.
