19 April, 2011

Dear Mr Atkins,

Your communication dated April 19 is considered to be a request for
information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Please find below the information you requested regarding `Is there a
publicly displayed copy of the UKHO staff handbook'.

The UKHO has a Staff Induction Handbook which is available to all new
starters at their induction, which takes place within two days of starting
at the UKHO. This is available as a hard copy folder and is also available
on our Intranet.

We have no plans for this to be displayed on our external website as,
although the information is not confidential, it is only designed and of
use to staff members and not the general public.

If you are not satisfied with this response or you wish to complain about
any aspect of the handling of your request, then you should contact me in
the first instance. If informal resolution is not possible and you are
still dissatisfied then you may apply for an independent internal review
by contacting the Head of Corporate Information, 2nd Floor, MOD Main
Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB (e-mail [1][email address]). Please note
that any request for an internal review must be made within 40 working
days of the date on which the attempt to reach informal resolution has
come to an end.

If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may take your
complaint to the Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section
50 of the Freedom of Information Act. Please note that the Information
Commissioner will not investigate your case until the MOD internal review
process has been completed. Further details of the role and powers of the
Information Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's website,

Dear Watson Chris,

You are correct in treating my request under the FOI request as that was what was intended.

I am looking for the collection of the standard policies and benefits that apply to staff in an organisation which would normally be collected under a staff hand book. I am not looking for the induction information.

I assume that standard employment policies would not be confidential and you would therefore not have a problem releasing them.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Atkins
