Dear St Mary's University, Twickenham,

Can you please tell me how many students St Mary's University have instructed STA International to collect unpaid accommodation fees from the 23rd March 2020 to the 8th April 2020?

Can you please provide me with all of your contractual agreement documents with STA International?

Yours faithfully,

Steven Carter

Dear St Mary's University, Twickenham,

I am requesting an interview review to answer this please?

By the way, the debt recovery company is named STA International.

Yours faithfully,

St Mary's University are failing to answer any FOI request adequately or at all.

I have 2 previous requests where the ICO deem they meet the threshold for the public interest test, here is another I believe.
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s...

The allegation is: this is a public body that seems to be attempting to unlawfully charge students upto the 8th April for accommodation when they told them to go home prior to the 23rd March coronavirus lockdown.

If 598 students are impacted by this,  sourced from other WDTK FOI requests then we are taking about a significant amount of overcharging going into the hundreds of thousands of pounds.

I believe that my FOI request carries a significant amount public interest.

Mr Browning,

Thank you for your reply.

I have made a substantive appeal to the ICO, I have provided an address for them and as you are aware the FOI act allows me to act as an agent for the students who I am helping.

There is no doubt that Mr Hartnett, St Mary's University VC told students to go home on the 24th March 2020 due to the pandemic and no doubt that St Mary's student charter requires students to obey the direction of University staff. Clearly, students were obedient to university staff, yet were charged for accommodation they were told to vacate upto the 8th April 2020. STA International, a dept collection agency that St Mary's instructed refused to act for your University in the collection of disputed accomodation debts.

One would think that you'd welcome public scrutiny in the interests of all students and the general public.

I believe these requests are very much in the public interest.

I'll now hope that the ICO uphold my appeal.

Dear St Mary's University, Twickenham,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of St Mary's University, Twickenham's handling of my FOI request 'STA international'.

This seems to be the answer that I got in your private email to me on the 9th July 2021:

"The University has used debt recovery agency to recover accommodation debts incurred by students up until 8 April 2020. The agency used was STA International".

It doesn't answer the question of: How many students, nor have you published your contractual agreement documents with STA International.

Please treat this as an internal review and please post the reply and documents on the whatdotheyknow.com website for the general public.
