Dear University of Sussex,

at the trial of Alex Cline this week for protesting at the squatting debate last year all of the witnesses said that sussex security was not good enough, ''they were totally unable to keep control'' and ''we were told a car would be waiting somewhere and it wsnt'' and appraetnly you didnt give Alexs' lawyer the cctv camera videos until the day before the court case started.

Please tell me if you had any complaints or bad feedback about your security staff handling of the debate, from anyone at all, and send me the complaitns and your replies under FOIA.

The squatting debate was supposed to be on november the 14th 2012.

Yours faithfully,
Alex Jones

Dear Mr Jones,

I write following your request dated 15 November 2013 (below) under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Please accept my apologies once again for the delay in responding.

You requested, in relation to the visit of Mike Weatherly MP to the University on 14 November 2012: “any complaints or bad feedback about your security staff handling of the debate, from anyone at all, and send me the complaitns [sic] and your replies under FOIA”.

I can confirm that the University received two complaints in relation to the above.

One of the complaints is being withheld in full under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act: Personal Data, as the information constitutes personal data, disclosure of which to a member of the public would contravene the data protection principles.

The second complaint is attached as Letter 1, but some information has been withheld under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act: Personal Data, which could identify the relevant complainant, and as such the information constitutes personal data, disclosure of which to a member of the public would contravene the data protection principles.

I can further confirm that two responses were sent to the complainants, both of which are identical.

The first is an acknowledgment of the complaint (attached as Response 1).
The second is an investigative report and covering email (attached as Reponse 2).

Please note that within Response 2 information has been withheld (redacted) under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act: Personal Data, as the information constitutes personal data, disclosure of which to a member of the public would contravene the data protection principles and which relates to individuals who are not members of University staff and have not supplied permission for their personal data to be released in to the public domain.

If you are not satisfied with the University’s response to your request, you may ask the University to review it. If you wish to do this, please write to Owen Richards, Academic Secretary at [University of Sussex request email] in the first instance. Full details of our FOI complaints procedure, including how to complain to the Information Commissioner, are at:
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/ogs/policies/inf...

Yours sincerely,
Alice Robertson
