Spending on Occupational Therapy Services

The request was successful.

Dear Inverclyde Council,

I have the following questions that I would like to receive an answer to:

1. How many OT departments are there and their designation? (i.e.: Community, hospital)
2. Do you have OT’s funded by the NHS working as locums, if so how many and which teams?
3. What type of OT departments are there i.e. adults/ children/ equipment/ blue badge?
4. How many Permanent OT’s in the department?
5. How many Temp/Locum OT’s in the department as of 19th October 2012?
6. How much was the spend on locum OT’s by department from 1st Jan 2012 to 19th Oct 2012?
7. Do you recruit for senior OT staff as a locum?
8. What is the management structure of the OT service?

Yours faithfully,

Fiona Russell

Dear Ms Russell,

In response to your e-mail of 21st November 2012 requesting information
under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, please find below
our response.

This response is from Inverclyde CHCP which is formed from Inverclyde
Council and the community aspect of Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health
Board.

1.    There is one main service were Occupational Therapists (OTs) are
employed.  It is the Centre for Independent Living and 8 OTs are employed
by Inverclyde Council.  There are 2 other OTs as part of the team who are
employed by Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board, one OT who is employed
by Greater Glasgow & Clyde  is located in the Community Learning
Disability Team (CLDT) and  one OT employed by Inverclyde Council located
within the reablement team at Inverclyde Royal hospital.

2.    No locum OTs are employed at present.

3.    The team at the Centre for Independent Living are a generic team
covering all ages and also assessments for Blue Badges.  The 2 OTs
employed by Greater Glasgow & Clyde within the Centre provide rehab within
the community and facilitate hospital discharges, covering all ages.  The
OT within CLDT covers all ages.

4.    As above.  All existing posts are permanent.  One new Housing post
has just been advertised which is for a 2 year period.

5.    Covered above.

6.    No locums employed at that time.

7.    Generally locums are not employed in this area.

8.    The structure within the Centre for Independent Living  is Community
OTs / Senior Practitioners/ Team Leader.  The other OTs are professionally
supervised outwith their work locations as their managers are non-OTs.
All OTs in the area attend Service Development Meetings as part of their
Continuing Professional Development, facilitated by the Team Leader at the
Centre for Independent Living.

I attach a copy of our review policy in case you are dissatisfied with any
aspect of this response.

Many thanks

Jeanette Hawthorn
