Thank you for your request for information, which has been dealt with
under the terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. The
information you requested is provided below.
1. How many OT departments are there and their designation?
(i.e.:community, hospital)?
The Council’s occupational therapists who provide services for
adults are integrated into Practice Teams (assessment and care
management), Intermediate Care and other teams as required, such as
Physical Disability Day Services; Older People's Day Services; Reablement
Services; Care Homes for Older People and the Community Equipment Store.
Within the Children and Families Department occupational therapists
provide services for children in schools, in the community and in Children
and Family Centres.
2. Do you have OTs funded by the NHS working as locums, if so how
many and which teams?
Not in adult services, but for children’s services some work is
commissioned via a payment to NHS Lothian.
3. What type of OT departments are there, i.e. adults/children/
equipment/blue badge?
Occupational therapy services are available to all adults from Assessment
and Care Management teams; Home Care and Intermediate Care teams.
Older people's services are generally for people aged 65+.
Adult physical disability services are available from age 16
upwards.
The Community Equipment Store is for all age groups, including
children
Services are also available in the Support to Children and Young
People’s service and the
Children’s Inclusion team.

Not usually, but due to the current manager in children’s services being
absent, a locum manager will be appointed for a period of two months.
8. What is the management structure of the OT service?
Assessment and Care Management service: generic teams split into 4 sectors
across the city, each managed by a Sector Manager who is accountable to
the Service Manager.
Reablement: located within home care teams and managed by the Home Care
Manager
Day Services: managed by the Day Services Manager
Intermediate Care: managed by team leaders in Intermediate Care Disability
Services: managed by a senior occupational therapist, accountable to the
Service Manager
Children and Families: managed by a senior occupational therapist who is
accountable to the Service Manager.
