Speed Limits
Dear Leicestershire Constabulary,
1) On speed limited roads (20mph, 30mph, etc), up to what speed above each limit do the police regard as acceptable; i.e. what latitude is applied to the limit before prosecution is pursued when there are no mitigating circumstances.
2) Are police officers briefed to treat any motorist differently to any other motorist; i.e. is additional latitude offered on some sort of selective basis?
Yours faithfully,
David Alfred

Dear Data Protection,
I am confused by the table shown in section 9.6 as certain speed excesses are not mentioned. Could you please therefore clarify the following points:
1. What is the guidance for 33 & 34 mph in a 30 limit?
2. That in some circumstances speeds as high as 42 mph in a 30 limit could warrant nothing more than a speed awareness course.
3. On motorways, speeds up to 78 mph can be deemed acceptable.
4. The guidelines are no more than guidelines and officers can take action if they wish at any speed above a given limit.
Yours sincerely,
David Alfred
Dear Leicestershire Constabulary,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of Leicestershire Constabulary's handling of my FOI request 'Speed Limits'.
I asked for some points of clarification in May and have not yet had a response.
