Speed limit on m62 southbound between Rochdale and Warrington

We're waiting for Benjamin Okukenu Shackleton to read recent responses and update the status.

Benjamin Okukenu Shackleton

Dear Highways England Company Limited,

I would like to request information as to the speed limit on the m62 southbound on 9/4/2021 between 9am and 2pm. Heading south from rochdale to warrington.
There was no indication of the speed cameras being set to 50mph. no signage and no slowed traffic, but my iphone sat nav told me it was a 50mph camera and told me to slow down ? why is this.

Could you please provide information in regards to:

1. The speed limit
2. When the speed limit was activated and deactivated
3. Any changes made to the speed limit which would affect my sat nav.
4. Why, if there was a 50mph speed limit on that static camera, there was no signage to advise.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Yours faithfully,
Benjamin

Beaumont, Julie, Highways England Company Limited

Dear Mr Shackleton

I am writing regarding your request for information, dated 9 April 2021.
In that request, you asked us for information about the speed limit on the
M62 southbound between Rochdale and Warrington.

We have estimated that the cost of compiling your request will exceed
£450. Section 12 of the Act does not oblige us to comply with requests if
they exceed this limit.

Within the cost limit, we could supply information for a 2 hour timeframe
between 2 to 3 junctions, (for example junctions 20 to 18 on the M62
between 9am and 11am on 9 April 2021). If you still require the speed
settings and can provide a more accurate location and time frame please
let me know.

Please note that if we cannot agree a revised request by 10 May 2021 I
will have to refuse your request in reliance on the section 12 exemption.

I am unable to comment on why the mapping on your iPhone advised the speed
limit was 50mph if no signals were set. However please be aware that in
car speed limits and mobile device speed limits are not always 100%
accurate. These should never be used as a replacement for observing and
complying to road signage.

If you wish to discuss any of the above, please contact me. Please
remember to quote reference number FOI 101023 in any future
communications.

Yours sincerely

Julie Beaumont
