Dear Mr Calinescu

Thank you for your email to Highways England on 29 August  2020 concerning
speed settings on the M1 northbound Junction 30 to Junction 31,
specifically for the enforcement camera at 4434a on 23 August 2020 at
19:04.

The information you have requested we make available to the public on a
regular basis.

Your request has been handled under normal business practices and not in
accordance with the Freedom of Information Act/Environmental Information
Regulations.

The following refers to settings for the enforcement site at 4434a on the
specified date and time requested:-

18:52 lane 1 was closed with a Red X with temporary speed of 40mph
activated for lanes 2,3,4 . Message legend was set to “Stranded Vehicle”
due to a vehicle in the carriageway.

19:56 vehicle was safely removed from the carriageway and the Red X
removed, lanes remained at temporary speed of 40mph due to congestion in
the area.

19:58 temporary speed was raised to 50mph as traffic flows improved in the
area of the earlier incident.

For added information and if your enquiry refers to an speeding offence,
it is the Police who operate all speed enforcement, as part of the
evidential trail the Police obtain images from the cameras which show the
vehicle travelling under the gantry along with an image of the displayed
temporary speed limit as the vehicle passes the enforcement site.

If you wanted to check this image, it can be obtained by requesting a copy
from the relevant Police Camera Partnership which for this site is South
Yorkshire Police.
