Speed Cameras

John McDevitt made this Freedom of Information request to West Midlands Casulty Reduction Scheme

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear West Midlands Casulty Reduction Scheme,

I have noted today that on Burnaby Road in Coventry a few lamposts have recently got a few signs on them showing a speed camera and a 30 sign on them. Near to where these signs are there has been a yellow camera attached to a lamp post.

Can you please inform me of the following

1) Is this a live working camera and if so what type system is it ie a fixed camera or part of a spec average speed system.

2) If it is not a live camera is it the a dummy camera used a some sort of speed reduction scheme

3) Who is responsible for authorising the location of any type of speeding camera in Coventry is it yourselves or Coventry City Council

Yours faithfully,

John McDevitt

Dear Freedom of Information,
Who is responsible for speed cameras in the West Midlands? If you do not hold any information about this location would that be because it is not a speed camera?

Yours sincerely,

John McDevitt

Freedom of Information,

Dear Mr McDevitt

Thank you for your email, can you please clarify how you would like us to deal with your request? In relation to your second question are you asking us to review our original response or are you asking for an Internal Review of our original response? You may wish to note that an Internal Review is not the best way to ask additional questions.

To enable us to proceed with your request I would be grateful if you could provide the clarification outlined above. After receiving your reply, your request will be considered and you will receive a response within the statutory timescale of 20 working days, as defined by the Act, subject to the application of any statutory exemptions. If you choose not to respond then your request will remain unanswered.

Yours sincerely,

I am sorry but your response says that you do not want an internal review, but you then ask us to review.

Just so I am clear, can you verify that you want us to treat this as a new set of questions please?

Thanks

Maybe just a coincidence but within 6 months of this request about unknown cameras fitted to lamp posts on Burnaby Road, which the police and council say they know nothing about, the police raided a house in the same road and shot and killed Sean Fitzgerald as he ran away.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-co...
Some activities operate outside of the FOIA, so it may explain why the police were so evasive, especially when armed police are involved.
