Speed camera effectiveness or ineffectiveness

The request was partially successful.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please can you let me know what information you have regarding the effectiveness of fixed and mobile speed cameras at reducing accidents where someone is killed or seriously injured (KSIs) in the Thames Valley.

I would specifically like to know the mean increase or decrease in KSIs at camera sites after installation of a camera, for comparable time periods. I would like to know both overall increase/decrease as well as the increase/decrease where the accident is wholly or partially due to exceeding the speed limit.

Please can you let me know if you have adjusted these figures to take into account regression to the mean.

Additionally, please can you let me know if you have carried out a cost-benefit analysis of this accident reduction, or similar research, and if so what the outcome what and what, if any, subsequent action was taken,.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Waites

where someone is killed or seriously injured (KSIs) in the Thames Valley.

Result of Searches

The Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership (TVSRP) does hold the
information you require.

Your request for information has now been considered and I am obliged to
supply the information requested.

In 2010, TVSRP conducted a study reviewing the performance of camera
sites. This study compares roads containing camera sites against the rest
of the road network using collision data back to early 1990's.

Camera Site Report 09 is published on our website. You can download a copy
[1]here.

Our website also contains an interactive search tool that allows you to
view the collision statistics at each individual enforcement site before,
after and recent (3 years) the camera was installed. Please see
[2]http://www.saferroads.org/maps/map.php (click on the individual camera
