Special schools in England

The request was successful.

Dear Department for Education,

I would be grateful if you could please send me current information about all the special schools (including maintained, independent, special academies etc) in England.

I need the following for each special school:

1. Name of school
2. Postal address
3. Designation of school, e.g. maintained/ academy/ independent
4. LEA
5. Email address for school
6. School telephone number
7. Name of Head Teacher
8. School 'unique reference number'

I would also like to know the number of pupils on roll in each establishment (part-time and full-time).

I would be grateful if you could send me all this information (i.e. for each school) in an Excel spreadsheet.

I look forward to hearing from you very soon.

With thanks

Yours faithfully,

You requested: “I would be grateful if you could please send me current information about all the

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and a  copy of the
information as held by the Department as at 24^th October 2013 is attached.

I have prepared for you on an Excel spreadsheet –

A list of special schools in England as at 22nd October 2013. The list includes the following: URN,
LA Number, LA Name, Establishment Number, Establishment Name, Type Of Establishment, Address,
Postcode, Telephone Number, Head Title, Head First Name, Head Last Name, Head Job Title and email
address where available.

At present the Department does not hold individual Head Teacher or school staff email information,
and for this reason we have supplied you with the school email address where possible.

The extract can be sorted to your own requirements by Phase of Education (primary, secondary etc.)
or Type of Establishment (academy, free school, community school, etc.). Further information on
these and other terms used within this extract can be found in the EduBase glossary:

Pupil numbers by school are available to download as part of the additional information for the
publication “Schools, pupils and their characteristics: January 2013” which is available on the
GOV.UK website here:
[2]https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...

As part of the data extract we have included the school Unique Reference Number (URN) so that if
you require further information on any particular school record please go to
[3]www.education.gov.uk/edubase where you will be able to view more information.

If you have any further issues or queries please do not hesitate to contact the EduBase helpdesk
using the feedback form: [4]http://www.education.gov.uk/edubase/feed...

Dear Mr Devonshire (Department for Education)

Many thanks for responding to my FOI request so promptly. I really appreciate it.

In your response, you mentioned that although you could not provide email addresses for Head Teachers, you had provided email addresses for the schools. However, the Excel spreadsheet that you sent does not contain any email addresses.

I would be very grateful if you could please amend the spreadsheet and send me the revised version, which contains school email addresses where possible.

Thank you once again for your help. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best wishes
Nathan Davies

The excel spreadsheet that we sent did include the email address
information, however I understand that the What do they know website edit
these from the public view, but they should be available if you login.
