Special constables

The request was successful.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please treat this request for information as a Freedom of
Information request in accordance with the Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002

I request the following information from Lothian and Borders Police
(LBP):

How many special constables undertook periods of active duty for each month so far in 2009, and for each month of 2008?

Please provide a breakdown of hours worked on what dates for each special constable whom undertook duty for the periods June 2009, July 2009 and August 2009. I understand that each officer cannot be specifically identified so please do feel free to label as Officer A, officer B etc;

I understand that you would perhaps not like to publish precise figures which would allow individuals with criminal intent to try and identify staffing numbers or patterns, but I would ask that you consider that specials form only a small staffing element of the Force.

I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Regards

Michael Traill

Good afternoon Mr Traill,

Thank you for your email, which has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Please find attached the total number of Special Constables who have been on active duty for the period requested for A, E, F and G Division. I have also attached a breakdown of the hours worked for the period June 2009, July 2009 and August 2009. However, please note that I have been unable to collate figures for our E Division for the first quarter of 2008. I am afraid that we no longer hold this information for these months, thus section 17 of the above Act applies: notice that information is not held.

For your information the territorial policing divisions represent the following areas:

G: Scottish Borders

I hope this information is of use to you. If you have any questions about the above or I can help in any other way, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me again. However, under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, you have the right to appeal if you are dissatisfied with the way in which we have dealt with your enquiry. This should be done within 40 working days of receiving this email. If you wish to appeal please contact Rachel Watson, Head of Force Information Unit, Lothian and Borders Police, Police Headquarters, Fettes Avenue, Edinburgh, EH4 1RB. Please note that subsequent to this internal review there is a right of appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner, Kinburn Castle, Doubledykes Road, St Andrews, Fife, KY16 9DS.
