Dear Bournemouth University,

Under the Freedom of Information Act, please provide answers to the following:

1. Do you monitor attendance of users of rooms including the physical number of individuals occupying a room for an event?
2. How do you monitor attendance of users of rooms?
a. If it is via an attendance monitoring system please state which one you are using?
3. If you monitor the usage of space:
a. What percentage of your planned or centrally recorded teaching activity takes place?
b. What percentage is recorded as not having taken place?
4. If you monitor the actual levels of occupation of general teaching rooms (Classrooms) what is the average percentage of recorded occupation within the rooms during general Undergraduate teaching weeks.
5. What percentage of teaching rooms do you monitor?
6. How many teaching rooms do you have by the following categories:
- Lecture Theatre
- Classroom
- Computer Lab
- All other specialist teaching spaces
i. Please specify what these Specialist Teaching Spaces are.
a. How many of these rooms are managed centrally or locally (i.e. within a college of faculty)?
7. Do you have a timetabling policy?
a. If you have a timetabling policy do you state the hours that teaching will take place between?
b. Do you differentiate between “Day or Core Hours” and “Evening or Non-Core Hours” and if so what are these hours?
8. What percentage of your teaching is held during the hours of:
a. 9:00 am – 5:00 pm?
b. 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm?

Your request has been processed by us in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

Our response:

1.Do you monitor attendance of users of rooms including the physical number of individuals occupying a room for an event?
Response: Yes we monitor this information.

2.How do you monitor attendance of users of rooms?
Response: We use auditors that tour the estate recording actual occupancy in each room audited.
a.If it is via an attendance monitoring system please state which one you are using?
Response: We do not use an attendance monitoring system.

3.If you monitor the usage of space:
a.What percentage of your planned or centrally recorded teaching activity takes place? Respopnse: In our November 2018 audit - the actual frequency of use for teaching activities was 60.17%.
b.What percentage is recorded as not having taken place? Response: The planned frequency for teaching activities was 63.05%.

4.If you monitor the actual levels of occupation of general teaching rooms (Classrooms) what is the average percentage of recorded occupation within the rooms during general Undergraduate teaching weeks. Response: 63.07%

5.What percentage of teaching rooms do you monitor? Response: 68%

6.How many teaching rooms do you have by the following categories:

Response:
-Lecture Theatre - 19
-Classroom [Seminar room] - 99
-Computer Lab 39
-All other specialist teaching spaces 116
i. Please specify what these Specialist Teaching Spaces are.
These spaces include Science Labs, Medical Skills rooms; tutorial spaces; Exercise Labs; TV studios, Editing Suites; Demonstration spaces; Fieldwork areas; Life drawing studio) a.How many of these rooms are managed centrally or locally (i.e. within a college of faculty)? The specialist rooms are scheduled centrally and supported by central services, but day to day managed by Faculty or Department.

7.Do you have a timetabling policy? Response: Yes a.If you have a timetabling policy do you state the hours that teaching will take place between? Response: Core teaching hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9am - 7pm, Wednesday9am-1pm, Friday 9am - 5pm. This may differ for fixed or PT courses.
b.Do you differentiate between “Day or Core Hours” and “Evening or Non-Core Hours” and if so what are these hours? Response: See 7.b for Core Hours. Non-core hours are determined by access to the various buildings.

8.What percentage of your teaching is held during the hours of:

a.9:00 am – 5:00 pm? Response: 94% of our teaching events finish after 17.00
b.5:00 pm – 9:00 pm? Response: 6% of our teaching events finish between 17.00 and 21.00
