Southbridge Road: comparative traffic and air quality surveys
Dear Croydon Borough Council,
Southbridge Road, the A236, in Waddon ward has been closed off to northbound traffic for significant gas mains works from July 26, with the closure expected to last up to six weeks.
What works is the council undertaking to monitor (a) comparative traffic levels; and (b) comparative air quality on Southbridge Road before, during and after this road closure?
Please provide any correspondence from ward councillors in anticipation of the works requesting the council conducts such comparative monitoring.
Yours faithfully,
S Downes

Dear S Downes
Request FOI/10362
Environmental Information Regulations 2004
Your request has been considered under the provisions of the Environmental
Information Regulations 2004. Please accept our apologies for the delay in
responding to you.
Specifically, you have requested the following information:
Southbridge Road, the A236, in Waddon ward has been closed off to
northbound traffic for significant gas mains works from July 26, with the
closure expected to last up to six weeks.
What works is the council undertaking to monitor
(a) comparative traffic levels; - None
(b) comparative air quality on Southbridge Road before, during and after
this road closure? - We would not do air quality monitoring for schemes
like this any monitoring would require at least 6 months prior to the
commencement works and then during the works and 6 months following
completion and not sure how this data would be used.
In general this would not be considered as a significant increase in air
quality levels unless there was an increase in of a factor of 5,000
vehicles per day. If this was the expectation then we would considered
carrying air quality modelling.
Please provide any correspondence from ward councillors in anticipation of
the works requesting the council conducts such comparative monitoring.
No correspondence identified.
