Source(s) of PLT statistics...

Department for Business, Innovation and Skills did not have the information requested.

Dear Department for Business, Innovation and Skills,

Mr Mark Prisk keeps providing so far unqualified statistics on the number of complaints being made about and resolved against PLT.

By way of example he states in a recent letter to Adam Holloway MP:-

"To date 223 cases have been referred to BT as provider of the equipment to resolve, one case remain unresolved, the others having been dealt with. Complaints of interference have shown a significant decline of about two thirds over the past twelve months (compared with the previous 12 months). This is against an increased take-up of the technology."

I would like to request the information used by Mr Prisk to make the above statement...

Please provide for the last two years (grouped by month and year) :-

1. The case referred to BT, please include case reference numbers and date of referral.
2. The numbers of interference reports involving PLT, please include the body to which the reports were initially made, the bodies should include the BBC as they have handled reports of interference to domestic radio and tv since 30th June 2010.
3. The number of cases directly resolved by Ofcom employing their enforcement powers.
4. The number of cases resolved *without* referral to BT.

Please also note that statistics on reports made to the BBC are entirely relevant to Mr Prisk's statement as Ofcom's help-desk and even their Enforcement Policy Adviser (Clive Corrie) were inappropriately passing people with PLT problems to the BBC reporting service as late as the 28th February this year.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Salter

Dear Department for Business, Innovation and Skills,

Please extend the period through which Ofcom have been passing reports of radio interference the BBC to the 15th September 2011.

It may surprise Mr Prisk to discover that Ofcom's "Enforcement Policy Advisor" again tried to incorrectly pass a radio amateur reporting interference to his radio to the BBC on the 15th September 2011. I understand that the BBC (through their FOIA team) have but Ofcom back onto the correct policy track.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Salter

Dear FOI Requests,

I do not believe I sent in any new requests for information on the 26th. I did pass more information through to you on the 25th ahead of receiving any response, so perhaps this has triggered your addition response and clarification. I suspect our emails crossed each other.

Thank you for your time and attention, please be assured that I have noted that you do not hold the information requested that formed Mr Prisk's statements.

I have already repeated my request to Ofcom; whom I understand do not holds the statistics stated by Mr Prisk either, instead relying on BT to provide them. But I understand that Ofcom will be disclosing the detail provided to them by BT as part of their response.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Salter
