Software used by schools to return the annual School Workforce census
Dear Department for Education,
I'm in the process of researching a study into the current state of the MIS software market in England.
I would like to see a breakdown of which software is used by schools to return the annual School Workforce census to the department.
Please could you provide this information in an Excel spreadsheet containing the following fields: school number, local authority number, software, number of pupils on roll.
I'm reliably informed that this information is held within the census return, and providing this information will prevent me having to make an FOI request to every single school and local authority in England for the information, thus cutting the cost raised on those departments and institutions to provide it.
Please provide this information from the most recent complete School Workforce census.
Thank you in advance for your help - it is much appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
Emily Jones

Dear Ms Jones,
Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 6 January. You
requested:

I would be grateful if you could supply the same information for the most recent complete
School Workforce census- submission date 6th December 2013, as requested:
Local Authority Number, School Number, School Name, Software Code, Number of Pupils.
I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
I have attached an Excel spreadsheet which contains the following fields from the 2013
School Workforce Census:
Local Authority Number, School Number, School Name, Software Code, Full-time equivalent
number of pupils on role (from the January 2013 School Census).
There are some case where the LAEstab number is null and these relate to the central
returns made by local authorities fro staff who are not employed by a particular school
such as peripatetic teachers.
Please note that the School Workforce Census data collection does not close until the 7
February and therefore the information provided is provisional. 2012 information was
provided in my last reply because 2013 information was substantially incomplete.
