In accordance with Section 21(4)(c) of FOISA, please find below the
response to your information request, which comprises the Review Outcome:

 

Do children's  social care staff who carry out care and support
assessments, including assessments of need and support planning. Have
training in autism?

Yes.

 

What level of autism training do social work staff have for assessing the
family needs for children with autism?

All social work staff are trained in techniques for assessing families. 
Specialist advice is sought from colleagues with experience and skill set
in this particular area.

 

Do senior managers who are making referrals of compulsory supervision
orders  for autistic children have advanced training to help them
understand autism behaviour?

Social work managers quality assure the proposed measures and actions with
respect to all additional support needs, including autism.

 

What training records are kept for social work staff who are trained in
autism?

Any training is recorded within training records for registration purposes
which includes training for autism.

 

Do Aberdeen council have social work staff  with extensive training in
dealing with children's disabilies?

Yes.

 

Do Aberdeen council have specialist disability social work staff trained
in autism supports?

Yes, Social Work staff undertake a range of training which is related to
their profession, any legislative requirements and specific to their work
area.  Some of our staff will have undertaken training related to Autism
or training which can be applied to their work with autistic people (e.g.
in communication methods).

 

Has Aberdeen Council  developed an Autism Training Framework detailing the
knowledge and skills required at different levels within the health and
social care workforce to achieve key outcomes for people with an autism
spectrum ?

Yes, a training framework is under development in Integrated Children’s
and Family Services specific to Autism.  A core action in the Aberdeen
City Autism Strategy is the development of a Training Framework, as such
learning from the model in Integrated Children’s and Family Services will
be undertaken and discussions have already commenced as to the development
of this in other areas, including into the wider health and social care
workforce.

 

There is specific training available to health based staff under the NHS
Education for Scotland Optimising Outcomes framework in addition to other
practitioner level training centred on Autism.

 

What happens next?

If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your request for an internal
review, you can apply directly to the Office of the Scottish Information
Commissioner (OSIC) for a decision. Generally, OSIC cannot make a decision
unless you have been through the ACC’s review procedure. To make an

● the reason that you asked ACC to carry out a review of your request

Clarified as: This is for Aberdeen city council children services

Yes, if the Need is assessed as meeting the criteria for C.W.D. Team.

 

3.       Does Aberdeen social work have specialist trained social workers
in autism?

A few social workers have Specialist Training in Autism.

 

4.       What level of training in autism do specialist trained social
workers have?

The National Autistic Society delivered a workshop to C.W.D. staff.

 

5.       Do any social workers have a post grad, Cert, Diploma or degree
in Autism?

No

 

6.       What is the criteria for being allocated a social worker from the
disability team.
