Dear Ms Allison

Here is the response to your Freedom of Information Request.

Academy use of social media and students consent of photograph or video

Question 1

Do you get the student(s) consent before taking a photograph or video of
them?
I refer you to the attached  documents: OAT photography and video
information and consent form which should be read in conjunction with the
OAT Photography and Video Policy.

The policy and consent form are issued to all parents/carers  before their
child joins an OAT academy and the consent form is signed by both
parent/carer and child.  The form clearly states that a parent/carer has
the option to withdraw consent at any time.  When a child reaches the age
of 13, by law  they are able to give or withdraw consent  independently
from their  parent/carer.

Question 2

Do you get the student(s) consent before posting the photograph or video
on social media?

Again, I refer you to the OAT photography and video information and
consent form and the OAT Photography and Video Policy.

There is a section on the consent form that allows parents/carers the
option to specifically opt out of the taking and publishing of
photographic or video material on social media sites.

“Taking and using photographs and videos of my child on social media,
including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn”.

When material is used on social media sites, additional consent is
obtained with regard to the publication of a child’s name or any other
personal details.

Question 3

Are the student(s) allowed to request their photograph or video to be
removed from social media?

Yes.

Academy social media monitoring of students private accounts

I refer you to the attached policy eSafety and eSecurity which details the
steps taken in our academies to educate our students with regard to safe
and responsible internet usage.

Question 1
Does the academy actively search for private social media accounts of
students (either with the use of software or by typing the student name
into the social media site)?

No our academies do not actively search the private social media accounts
of students.

Question 2
Does the academy compel student(s) to delete content from their private
social media accounts?

If an academy became aware of inappropriate content in a private student
social media account, the student and their parent/carer would usually be
invited in to school  to discuss this.  If the content was defamatory or
abusive about another student od member of staff, the academy would
request that the content is removed, again in consultation with the
parent/carer.  If there were Prevent or safeguarding concerns, the usual
procedure would be followed.

Question 3
Does the academy have any policies in place that allows the academy to
search for private social media of students? If yes, is the policy made
clear to the students, parents, etc?

There are no policies in place at our academies that allow the private
social media accounts to be searched.

Best wishes

Rebecca
