Dear Defence and Security Media Advisory Committee,

I would be most grateful if you would provide me, under the Freedom of Information Act, the information requested below.

The details we require are:

1. Who is your social media management and monitoring tool supplier?

2. Start date & duration of framework/contract with the supplier

3. Actual spend on this contract/framework (and any sub lots), from the start of the contract to the current date

4. Who is the senior officer (outside of procurement) responsible for this contract?

Thank you for your help.

Yours faithfully,

Ellie Jones

Geoffrey Dodds, Defence and Security Media Advisory Committee

Dear Ms Jones,

Thank you for your e-mail earlier today in which you request information
on our social media management and monitoring tool supplier.  But forst,
let me explaion the purpose of the DSMA Notice System.

The aim of the DSMA Notice System is to prevent inadvertent public
disclosure of information that would compromise UK military,
counter-terrorist and intelligence operations, methods, or capabilities;
put at risk the safety of those involved in such operations; or lead to
attacks that would damage the critical national infrastructure and/or
endanger lives.  The system is voluntary, it has no legal authority and
the final responsibility for deciding whether or not to publish or
broadcast rests solely with the editor or publisher concerned.

DSMA Notices are issued by the DSMA Committee.  This is an independent,
advisory body composed of senior civil servants representing government
departments concerned with national security and media representatives,
including editors of national and regional newspapers, periodicals, news
agencies, broadcasters, digital news, and book publishers.  The DSMA
Committee is supported by a Secretariat of civil servants funded by the
Ministry of Defence.

The five standing DSMA Notices are listed [1]here.  The DSMA Committee
Secretariat offers advice to editors and journalists on specific matters,
often following their requests for advice, and if necessary, may
occasionally issue specific DSMA Notice advice in a letter to editors.

Although as a non-public body the DSMA Committee is not subject to the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 or the Freedom of Information (Scotland)
Act 2002, the DSMA Committee is committed to practising a policy of
maximum disclosure consistent with its aim of preventing the inadvertent
public disclosure of information that would compromise UK national
security, and that the subsequent advice is sought and given in
confidence.  Please see [2]www.dsma.uk for more information on the
DSMA-Notice System.

I can confirm that the DSMA Committee has no social media management
capability, no monitoring tool supplier, no contract, no spend and no
person with responsibility for this capability.

With many thanks and kind regards,

Geoffrey Dodds
