Smoke detectors

The request was refused by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Dear Scottish Fire and Rescue Service,

I write to request copies of emails concerning the change in law from smoke detectors unlinked to smoke detectors that have to be linked. Specifically emails between SFRS and the Scottish Government.

Also the Fire Services position fitting smoke detectors. That is, will SFRS fit interlinked detectors as per the Law. Will the service replace the detectors that it has already fitted that will now not comply?

Lastly must a householder fit a heat detector in a kitchen. Would another smoke detector not be sufficient. Given smoke detectors are more sensitive.

I look forward to your reply.

Yours faithfully,

Paul Temple

Dear Mr Temple

Freedom of Information Request

Thank you for your request for information and apologies for the delay.

Your request has been processed in accordance with Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002.

I refer to your request and can confirm that the Prevention & Protection
Directorate has advised that there was 4 years correspondence relating to
the change in law for smoke detection.  In order to provide you with the
requested information, we would require to carry out extensive searches of
our systems.

Your request has been considered, however we are unable to comply with
your request.  The broad nature of the request would require a
considerable amount of time and effort to comply with and the cost of
doing so is estimated to an amount more than the appropriate limit
prescribed within the fees limit allowed in the Freedom of Information
(Fees for Required Disclosure) (Scotland) Regulations 2004 and the Freedom
of Information (Fees for Disclosure under Section 13) (Scotland)
Regulations 2004.  The amount prescribed for the purposes of section 12(1)
of the Act (excessive cost of compliance) is £600

With reference to the change in law, the Prevention & Protection
Directorate has advised that the following link provides all the
information on requesting a home fire safety visit assessment  and the new
Scottish Government legislation –
