Smilog Woods

The request was partially successful.

Dear Natural Resources Body for Wales,

I am requesting information on the events of February 25th & 26th 2016. During that time the military was conducting an exercise code named Chameleon. According to local residents and people driving around the Smilog during that time, this area was shut down and blocked off.

Public footpaths and entrances to Smilog Woods were blocked and roads around the areas of Llantrisant where Smilog Woods is were also closed off to the public for a number of hours. This was during the time people reported explosions and smoke was seen coming from the Smilog Woods area.

Can you please provide me with information and documents to the following questions.

Why was Smilog Woods closed to the public during this time 25th & 26th 2016?

What exactly is the reason for the military being in the Smilog Woods during this time 25th & 26th 2016?

Whose authority was it to close the woods to the public during this time 25th & 26th 2016?

Why were the roads closed down in areas of Llantrisant and around Smilog during this time 25th & 26th 2016?

Yours faithfully,

Gary Jones
