Site Protection from Travellers

The request was partially successful.

Dear Carmarthenshire Council,
What action is being taken to protect Sandy Water Park Llanelli from the illegal setting up of travellers camp and what date will work begin, in the light of the ' invasion ' of hundreds of travellers that abused the area last year. At the time residents and local businesses were told that action would be taken to prevent it happening again, at the time of writing no action has been taken and no one in the County Hall wants to say

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr James,

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 10^th
May, 2017 and has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act
2000.

The specific information you requested was as follows:

What action is being taken to protect Sandy Water Park Llanelli from the
illegal setting up of travellers camp and what date will work begin, in
the light of the ' invasion ' of hundreds of travellers that abused the
area last year.  At the time residents and local businesses were told that
action would be taken to prevent it happening again, at the time of
writing no action has been taken and no one in the County Hall wants to

In response, the incident last year where several hundred travelling
families took over this area of land is something that the County Council
nor the Police have encountered before and having officers involved in a
several multi agency meeting about this we do not anticipate it happening
again. Nonetheless, the County Council does propose to undertake works to
existing provisions in order to ensure the area is as secure as what it
can be and the measures adopted are in proportional to the risk. As such,
it is confirmed an instruction has been issued to operatives within our
Environment department to secure and/or replace damaged timber posts along
the boundary edge of the site which is programmed to commence in June.

Yours sincerely
