Dear Ms Collman

I am now able to respond to your Freedom of Information request logged on 8th August under reference 343633.

a)How many homeless persons have approached the Council homeless after being evicted as a result of rent arrears due to issues with a Housing Benefit claim
b)How many homeless persons have approached the Council homeless after being evicted as a result of rent arrears due to issues with Universal Credit

These figures could only be obtained by manual examination of all homelessness records for the period. The work necessary to obtain these figures for the period since the national implementation of Universal Credit would exceed the cost limit set down in Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

c)How many homeless persons are now on Universal Credit within the Borough

Currently none

d)How many homeless persons are on Housing Benefit within the Borough

During July 2017 106 homeless persons were paid housing Benefit.

e) How many homeless persons present themselves as homeless to the HPU
(I) weekly
(ii) monthly
(iii)annually

The table attached shows the number of persons presenting as homeless each month during 2016/17. The annual total was 739 equating to a weekly average between 14 and 15.

f) How many of those homeless persons that present themselves are assisted in finding accommodation

Anyone approaching the Council as homeless will be given assistance in finding accommodation. Only those who the Council have a legal duty to accommodate can be provided with accommodation. Detailed homelessness statistics are published every quarter nationally at https://www.gov.uk/government/collection... .

g) What provisions are provided for those single homeless persons that present themselves homeless.

The Council currently has a number of small units where single homeless persons can be accommodated temporarily. Other accommodation may be used as necessary.
