Since 2022 Pethidine tablets 50mg have been out of stock since January 2022.
Dear Department of Health and Social Care,
Since 2022 Pethidine tablets 50mg have been out of stock since January 2022. The M.P s and manufacturers, Teva and Martindale are advising there is no resupply date, however, there are websites stating the date is April 2024. The companies keep giving resupply dates that keep being changed to a different date.
I need to know when the supply of Pethidine 50Mg tablets will be available.
I have been prescribed these especially for ongoing kidney stones, as I am a reproducer and suffer a great deal of restrictive pain. It is highly effective in my case and no alternative has been found, which works for me.
Availability of this item "completely transforms the quality of my life".
Please assist.
Yours faithfully,
Charles Dickens

Dear Mr Dickens,
Thank you for your correspondence of 26 June and of 28 May (Our ref:
FOI-1514655) about pethidine tablets. I have been asked to reply and
apologise for the delay in doing so. This correspondence has been handled
as a public enquiry, not as a freedom of information request.
I appreciate the concerns you have raised.
The Department is aware of supply issues with pethidine 50mg tablets,
which are, unfortunately, expected to continue until late September/early
October 2024.
However, alternative oral opioid analgesics remain available, and
clinicians who wish to continue to prescribe pethidine 50mg tablets can
access these from specialist importers. Currently,
unlicensed pethidine tablets can be sourced by Mawdsleys and BAP Pharma.
Advice on management options has been communicated to NHS healthcare
professionals.
Yours sincerely,
Correspondence Officer
