Dear Elizabeth Thomson,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST FOI 2019-219

I refer to your email of 1 July 2019 requesting information relating to SIMD and applicants.

Your request has now been considered under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, ‘the Act’.

I would like to request the number of undergraduate Scottish domiciled SIMD 20 & SIMD 40 applicants to your institution in each of the last 6 years, (preferable 2013/14 - 2018/19, but alternatively 2012/13 - 2017/18.

I would like the information to be broken down by year, and SIMD deciles 20 & 40, EG:

2012/13 - SIMD40 applicants: x, SIMD20 applicants: x, etc.

Please see attached spreadsheet for the information you have requested. Please note the following:

•The spreadsheet provides number of applications. We do not record applicants as each applicant has the ability to submit up to 5 applications.
•The SIMD classification changed in 2016. We have used the 2012R2 dataset for the 2013-2017 data, and have used the 2016 dataset for the 2017-2018 data. You will note the 2017 data is different due to the change in SIMD classification.
•We have included all UG applications for full degrees, but excluded the PGDE, Access and non-graduating programmes.
•We only classify data by quintile, not decile.

Should you be dissatisfied with this response, you have the right under the Act to request a review. A request for review must be made within 40 working days of the date of this reply. It must include your name and address for correspondence and specify the request for information and the grounds for dissatisfaction with the decision. Please send your request for review to our mailbox, [University of Aberdeen request email]. The University will respond to your request for a review within 20 working days of receipt of your request.

If you are unhappy with the outcome of the University’s internal review, you have the right to appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner within six months of the date of receipt of the University’s review notice. Details on how to make an appeal to the Commissioner are available at www.itspublicknowledge.info/Appeal. Should you remain dissatisfied with the Commissioner’s decision, you have a right of appeal to the Court of Session on a point of law.
